The Story of V-Tiling...

August 7, 2007: In an effort to create a clock face by photographing beach stones in a circle, I did something else that would take the project in an unexpected direction. I also photographed the surfaces of six Minnesota Bluestone boulders in the breakwater at the end of Minnesota Point. I came home to my studio and used one of the photos in a series of photo-illustrations I named Genesis. Looking at the other photos I had taken that day, I was intrigued by the colors in the rock surfaces. I decided to focus only on the material as a means to piece together or "tile" the material into images and graphics. Returning to the breakwater two days later, I took over 100 more photos. Within one month's time, I was also using stained glass, wood, and metal in my virtual tile, or "V-tile" series. This website contains the first designs created for a new medium.
