The Gift Item

Each “Great Lake” gift item is designed, illustrated and produced by Gary Lundstrom, who feels integrity and quality is of utmost importance in creating his line. Gary's “Great Lake Images” are detailed illustrations that are begun as pen & ink drawings and then painstakingly enhanced with computer airbrush tools. The coffee mugs and clock faces are printed by hand at his studio in Duluth, using the exclusive permanent dye-sublimation process. The bookmarks, note cards, stationery, posters, prints and t-shirts are all printed in Duluth, Minnesota. Using regional and domestic services is the primary objective, and he will only out-source if the product is impossible to produce and retail at a competitive price. At this time, the playing cards are the only gift items totally manufactured outside the U.S. The jigsaw puzzles are printed in Duluth and manufactured in Buffalo, New York. The sand-carving of the glass art is also done in Duluth by Gary.

The Artist

Gary Lundstrom, owner of Great Lake Design, acquired his visual communications degree in Denver, Colorado in 1987 and worked there as a graphic designer for 10 years.

Gary returned to his hometown of Duluth, Minnesota in 1997, where he began his graphic design business as Lakeshore Design. He also started making gift items featuring his illustrations of the region's various landmarks. What began as four styles of bookmarks and picture magnets has become an ever-increasing product line of more than 100 separate items, each featuring his original Great Lake Images and/or original graphics.

Great Lake Design also provides custom graphic design and illustration services with a personal touch that is too often missing in today's business market. Your project, whether it's a billboard or a full-color corporate annual report, will be done with your total satisfaction in mind... because that's just the only way we do things at Great Lake Design.
